And the only prescription is more WordPress. WordPress 3.5 was released yesterday and I was named on the list of contributors. I had submitted some fixes to the Blue Theme’s CSS and some of the changes made it into core! Making the list has given me a renewed drive to try and decode Trac and become a more consistent contributor. This is just another part of the positive news I’ve been receiving lately.
A little over a week ago, I put in my two weeks notice at my current job at O3 World in Philadelphia. I wanted to explore new oppurtunities and meet new people. I had played with the idea of freelancing full-time, but couldn’t find health insurance at a reasonable rate. So, for the past week or so, I’ve been applying to jobs and trying to spread the word of my recent free agency. Leaving a full-time job at a stable web firm without a back-up plan isn’t an easy choice to make, but making a clean break made it easier for me to promote my status on social media and this fine website you’re reading now.
In addition to the social aspect, it gave me a kick in the ass to get my portfolio up-to-date and looking good for potential hiring onlookers. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by all of the positive feedback I received from the emails and applications I sent, and even impressed at the interest from some pretty huge names in the industry.
2012 has been a great year. I got married to my beautiful and talented wife. Together, we have been settling into the 2nd year in our house. We’ve added a new member to our family, although we had to say goodbye to another. With all these new opportunities popping up, I’m really excited for what’s to come in 2013.
